It's been said that it should be put out to pasture, but I'm still loyal to my American Idol. Even though The Voice ad The X Factor are the singing shows of the moment, AI remains the only true star maker. The aforementioned shows have yet to discover the talent that American Idol has. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, all got their start on AI.
Enough rambling. Simply put, American Idol makes me happy, nuf' said.

Even AI's more recent winners, although not as big as the ones you mentioned have done better then any of the other shows - at least that I'm aware of.
Don't forget Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry and Philip Philips.
I loathe Mariah Carey.
While I'm dying to see her and the Minaj duke it out, it's not stronger than my will to avoid that cow at all costs.
